Abducting Amy is a humorous look at the
adventures
of an extraordinarily beautiful young woman. Please ignore the
back
cover blurb when you look at the book in the store – it does not
reflect
the tone or contents of the book accurately. It makes the story
seem
serious and almost sado-masochistic. Nothing could be further
from
the truth!
|
Ammabel Armstrong is beautiful, and in her case
beauty
is more than skin deep, but she is forced to use that beauty to find a
home
for herself and her invalid mother. Her greedy uncle expects to
profit
handsomely for paying for her London season, and she must do as he says
or
risk her mother’s life.
|
When the many suitors who vie for her hand learn
just
how expensive she will be, the abductions begin. Amy manages,
through
wit and determination, to foil each one, and with the help of her
friends,
to keep the ton from finding out. When her best
friend
and three of her favorite young men conspire to steal her from her
carriage,
it is because they have decided her impending engagement to a cruel,
half-mad
marquess must be stopped. The three men offer her a choice–marry
any
one of them rather than the marquess. Amy, fearful that her uncle
will
harm her mother, must refuse them all. Then the Earl of
Maxbridge,
the man she loves, shows up to stop the abduction, and offers for her
himself,
making it plain he will pay her uncle’s price, but only out of lust,
because
he thinks she is a heartless fortune hunter who does not deserve his
love.
|
Amy refuses him, broken-hearted, and prepares to
meet
her fate. But fate itself takes a hand. Accidents, social
gaffes,
and even strawberries, make it possible for her to escape her unwanted
bridgegroom.
But will Lord Maxbridge return for one last, loving abduction?

| Here is what one reviewer says of Abducting Amy:
|
"With deft humor that knows
no
bounds; witty dialogue that will keep you laughing off the edge of your
seat;
and delightful characters that continually charm and entertain you,
June
Calvin’s July release, Abducting Amy, is an excellent example of a
regency
pageturner. . . . .
From the ballrooms to the countryside I could
vividly
imagine it all and admire the attention to detail that the author used
in
creating this romance. But the characters, all the characters at that,
from
the main to the secondary, do a wonderful job of making the reader
believe
that they have truly traveled back in time to the regency era where the
opinion
and tongue wagging of the Ton could make or break even the most
powerful
person.
. . . .
As a Regency fan I have always found Ms. Calvin to
write
creative settings, charming characters and entertaining storylines
regency
era romances that cannot be put down until the final words have been
read
and I have been assured of the happy ending that I feel in my heart
that
the characters deserve. And just like the character Amy, Abducting Amy
is
a diamond of the first water! Ms. Calvin’s love for Regency romance
comes
across in every word she writes."
