The queries listed have been collected from personal email. The list is getting longer so I have devised and index of sort. If your browser can recognize colored text, your will notice a red line of text in each query. The line has several section divided by different punctuation. The first section is the main PHILLIPS name the search is looking for. The next name after the "/" is the spouse. The following names separated by commas are other surnames mentioned in the query. The letters following the colon is the migration route of the people in the query. The first line is the date query was received. An email address or snail mail address will be follow the query. Also look at the
end of the query for a webpage link if there is one.

John Phillips/Nancy Cuper & Susan Farmer:NC
John PHILLIPS' parentage is unknown but he likely was of the Phillips who early
settled in Orange county, North Carolina at an early date, and his line may
run back to Daniel Phillips of Currituck county of the same state. The
ancient Phillips ancestry runs back to Wales and apparently connects to early
English royalty. The aforementioned John Phillips was early in Person County,
North Carolina. His plantation was located on Aldridge Creek about one half
mile south of a Mt. Zion Methodist Church. This John married twice. His first
marriage was to NANCY CUPER on August 6, 1794. He later married SUSAN FARMER
on Feb. 18, 1811. He and a neighbor (LAWRENCE HARGIS) donated the land for
the Mt. Zion Methodist Church on Dec. 9, 1835. He died Oct. 15, 1836 and is
buried in a small family cemetary near the site of his old home. His last
wife lived on for several years and she is believed to be buried in the Mt.
Zion Cemetary. Some think he had a brother, WILLIAM PHILLIPS, in that area.

Jasper Phillips:AR>OK
"One of our family's colorful characters was Jasper Phillips, born October
18, 1900 in Polk Co., AR is the son of James Marion Phillips from Walker Co.,
AL. His family moved into Sulphur Springs, OK., which was later named
Watson after statehood and a postoffice was built.
Jasper Phillips was a small man, only about 5 feet tall. The family said he
had some problems at birth and just didn't grow very much at a time and he
was always smaller than his age group of boys. When he was a child, he had
a pet gobbler that he could ride around the place. Now we all know that
gobbler's aren't small, especially if they're a pet 'cause we tend to feed
them more than the ordinary barn stock.
Jasper was a cowboy in the rodeo circuit and was known for drinking and
fighting even before he was 20. He was good friends with Jimmy Wakely
(later to be know for the western movies he played in). During a "Wild
West" show in Bethel Oklahoma in the 1920's, he and Jimmy were run out of
town. They had taken turns riding a horse until it had quit bucking and
since that was not the rules, the show had refused to pay them their
winnings, and also because they were then stuck with a broke horse instead
of a buckin' bronco. Jasper and Jimmy were so mad at the decision to not
pay them for the entertainment they had provided, that they shot up the camp
and burned the wagons before they left. They rode hard and fast to get
outta there and they made it all the way to New Mexico. They split up as a
team while in New Mexico and Jimmy Wakely went on to California and made
his career there still being a cowboy.
Jasper finally came back to Oklahoma years later and he died in a tractor
accident in the 1940's. I think he lived around Wayne, Oklahoma."

Phillips.
Etta Phillips/James Brien Walker:KY>IL>TN
Im new to the list -- but here goes --- I'm looking for Etta (poss.
PHILLIPS), who married James Brien WALKER, ca- 1870, in Ky, Ill, or Tn.
They had a daughter, Willie Phillips Walker. According to James B.
WALKER's will, dated 28Dec1922, she was residing in Reves, Tn. No mention
of whether she had married. If any body sees a connection, I could sure use
it.
David Phillips/Mahala Anderson(?):VA>WV
First of all, is there an index to the 1910 and/or 1920 Mineral County, WV
census?
Or does anyone of you have access to the 1910 and/or 1920 Mineral County, WV
census? If you do and are willing to do a lookup, I am trying to locate
information about David Phillips, b. 1826 in VA/WV and his wife, Mahala
(Anderson?) Phillips, b. 1824 in VA/WV.
In the 1900 Tucker County WV census they are shown at ages 73 and 75
respectively, residing with their daughter, Arthelia (Phillips) Phillips, w/o
James William Phillips. Also in the household are James and Arthelias
children: Lloyd J. Phillips, age 15; Eva C. Phillips, age 10; Lulu Melissa
Phillips, age 4; and Maudie G. Phillips, age 1.
When James Phillips died in 1925, he and Arthelia were residing in Keyser,
Mineral County. I believe that David and Mahala would have continued to
reside with Arthelia and James until their deaths. I am trying to narrow down
the time period of their deaths. James and Arthelia were not in Tucker
County in the 1920 census, so they apparently moved to Mineral County at some
time after 1900. Thus I would expect to find them (and consequently, her
parents) in the 1910 census if they were still alive.
I appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you.

John W.S. Phillips/Mary Moore,Fitzwater,Kittle:VA>WV
I am searching for information on the parents and/or siblings of John W. S.
PHILLIPS, born in VA/WV 31 Dec. 1818, died 1 Aug 1865 in Tucker Co., WV.
John W. S. PHILLIPS married (date unknown) Mary Moore (her parents also
unknown). Their children include: Bethany/Bertha; Melvina Phillips (m.
Nathaniel Nestor/Nester); William B.; Richard K.; Leonard; Arnold; Sanford;
and Martha Jane.
Martha Jane Phillips married Silas James Fitzwater in 1875. They were my
great-grandparents.
They lived in the Barbour County and Tucker County areas of West Virginia.
I have seen undocumented information that John W. S. PHILLIPS is the son of
Eli H. Phillips and Mary Kittle, but don't have anything to verify this.
David Phillips/?,Harsh:VA>WV
I am searching information on the ancestors, marriage dates, and children of:
David PHILLIPS - b. Oct. 1826 in VA, married (date unknown) to
Mahala (surname Unknown - possibly Anderson) - b. 1824.
Their known children include:
Tazewell - b. abt. 1848
Lucinda - b. abt 1849, died 1874. Lucinda Married to James William Phillips
abt. 1880-82 (first child born 1882). After Lucinda died, James William
married her sister, Arthelia (see below). Jacob - b. abt 1842
Martha Jane - b. 1860, married to Mr. ---- Harsh.
Arthelia - b. 1865
They possibly had three other children: Henry, Hanah, and David L. Phillips.
The counties of their births and the county of their marriage are unknown.
Their dates of death are also unknown, but it was after 1900. In 1900, they
were living in Tucker Co., WV with Arthelia and James William Phillips.
I will appreciate any information you may have.
Marshall Phillips/Mary ?:VA>WV
I am searching for information on the ancestors of Marshall and Mary PHILLIPS
of West Virginia. Marshall Phillips is the father of James William Phillips,
who was born in 1855 in Randolph Co., WV. On James William Phillips' death
certificate (he died 1925 in McCoole, MD), his mother's maiden name is listed
as Mary Phillips (it is possible that Phillips is both her maiden name and
married name) and her birthplace as Barbour Co., VA.
Since James William was born in 1855, a good estimate for his parents'
birthdates is about 15-20 years earlier -- or from 1830-1835.
Don Norman's "Descendants of George Phillips" lists a Marshall Phillips, born
1838, as the son of Jesse Phillips and Margaret E. Kittle Phillips. However,
no county is listed.
At this time, I do now have access to a WV census. However, I have determined
that Marshall is NOT listed in Tucker County in 1860 or 1870; and is NOT
listed in Randolph county in 1850. I have not yet checked Barbour or any
other county.
Moses Phillips/?,Hill:VA
I am searching for information on Moses PHILLIPS. He lived in Amherst Co.,
VA from at least 1829 to 1853. I have him as the bondsman for his daughter
Frances W. PHILLIPS' marriage to Jefferson Lee HILL on 29 Jan. 1829. He
was still in Amherst Co. in 1853 when he deeded a slave to Frances. I
would be very interested in information about his family (wife and other
children).

Seeking information on the following Phillips family: John Phillips was a member of the 2nd Regiment, Cherokee Mounted Rifles. John was the son of Elijah PHILLIPS, a white man who had been a planter among the Cherokees. He moved west with the Old Settlers of the Cherokee Tribe in 1829. Subject: Phillips Genealogy
I can place my family origins as far back as Quebec, possibly England. The furthest back I go is James Phillips who married Jane McLeod. James was born in England approximately 1831 and died in Quebec Nov. 1, 1917. Jane was born in Scotland June 17, 1835 and died April 23, 1909 in either Quebec or Ontario, not sure. James and Jane Phillipd had eight children, John S., William, Jane, Margaret, James, Effie, Alexander
(Sandy) Mcleod Phillips, and David Phillips. Our families owned farming land (five farms?) in Ontario around Ottawa. It has been said that our original Phillips ancestor in the North American continent came to Canada with the Duke of Richmond (Charles Gordon Lennox) in 1818. The poor Duke died the following year of Rabies after being bitten by his pet fox. I have a cousin that has researched the Ottawa/Ontario archives and has identified so much detail that she can even list the crops our family raised and the number and type of livestock they owned.
If you have run across any Phillips lines that might be associated with my family I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Also, if you know of any good sources on the Web that could aid me in my search, it
would also be great to hear from you. I also am researching the other families, McLeod and Steele who originated from Dumfrieshire, Scotland, Black and Leslie from County York, Ireland. We also have Storr, Boyce, and Carter, but those will be some time down the road. Everything I have goes as far back as the 1820's.
