Land Grant of Jesse Maxwell

The map below shows the approximate location of the Land Grant of Jesse Maxwell. According to the book written by Mollie Maxwell Claiborne, Jesse's home, Maxwell Hall was located 5 or 6 miles NW of Patterson's Knob. Unfortunately this doesn't jive with other information. Travelers Rest was built on the land that John Overton bought from the heirs of David Maxwell, Jesse's brother. After Jesse claimed his land, he made a claim for the heirs of his deceased brother to the north of his. It is possible that the creek now known as Seven Mile Creek was known at one time as the West Fork of Mill Creek, for that is where the land grant documents place them.
